Description

Inspired from one of the world’s most exotic regions, this goblet collection is made from mouth blown crystal with cloud design and set in fine cloisonné stems. The set consists of glasses for Champagne, Wine and Water.

Cloisonné, supposedly came from France, known as cloisons (French for “partitions”) to China in the 13th century. It is the art to fill spaces, separated by metal lines, on vases or vessels by enamel, i.e., by way of a mineral based paste which needed firing. The art is manifold - first is create the picture by lines, then to add the paste according to firing temperature, highest first to avoid that the temperature melts and ruins previous colors.

The paste needs the right consistency to avoid running during the firing process which would ruin the décor of a piece. It’s a team work and quality is set by the master artist of the team, who supervises all processes, from buying the minerals, the welding of the picture lines etc. The best blue is cobalt from Persia , which was also used for porcelain and in much Chinese cloisonné, blue is usually the predominant colour, called "Jingtai blue ware", referring to the Chinese Jingtai Emperor. Cloisonné objects were intended primarily for the furnishing of temples and palaces in Ancient China and came to be greatly prized at the imperial courts.
