The Evolution of the Mini bag

The Evolution of the Mini bag

Small - smaller - smallest

The Mini Bag, have you heard of it, or even better: do you already own one? Every fashion icon nowadays has a Mini Bag in her wardrobe. It is impossible to imagine the fashion industry without these little bags. Countless world stars have preceded you, such as Kim Kardashian, Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner and Rihanna Fenty.

Capitalizing on the current “Less is More” trend, miniature or micro bags have become a raging trend. French designer Jacquemus’ spring/summer 2022 runway featured the “Mini Le Chiquito” bag, which measures 4" x 2.5" to be exact. These tiny handbags are ideologically completely in line with the way accessories are viewed nowadays. Big enough to fit one Apple Airpod earphone at most, they are becoming a status symbol.

Contrasting their mini size, the bills that accompany them are extravagantly large, with their price ranging between $345 and $795. Not only Jacquemus, but handbag connoisseurs like Louis Vuitton & Longchamp seem to have taken a liking for unpractically tiny handbags too.

This interpretation of the handbag is the need to “downsize” consumption in real life. The unusually small proportions make one rethink and perhaps reduce consumption, and as a result, need to carry far less. With this “downsizing”, the customers seem to be rising on Maslow’s pyramid exhibiting “self-actualization” like qualities. To spend more than $300 on a toe sized handbag that can barely hold two mints could be considered a symbol of distancing oneself from “worldly possessions” that the usual handbag holds.

Indulge Shop can of course not stay behind on this trend. With our wide range of (vintage) designer bags, we also have great Mini bags for you. Our favorite mini bag is the small Louis Vuitton Speedy Mini Multicolore Monogram Canvas: a real classic in a Limited Edition version.
